Quarantine Birthday

A birthday is a wonderful time of year; it is a time when you get to celebrate life, spend time with friends and have a great time – for kids a birthday means, eating cake, playing games with friends and getting presents. For adults a birthday means catching up with old friends and family, perhaps going to a restaurant or show and celebrating another trip around the sun. Unfortunately, with social distancing in effect, many of these activities are nearly impossible to do. Restaurants and bars are closed and gathering in a large group is unsafe. But do not worry, quarantine or not, you can still have an unforgettable birthday this year! Here are a few fun quarantine birthday ideas that you can plan for your kids, loved ones, or yourself to make this birthday extra special. And if you have a friend or loved one who is celebrating a quarantine birthday make sure to give them a birthday greeting card with a handwritten note inside telling them what they mean to you - even though you may not be able to wish them a happy birthday face to face, you can still write it in a card.

Plan a parade – Chances are, your child has many friends who live in the neighborhood and who are also stuck at home, so plan a parade, send invites to each friend asking them to make a sign wishing your child a happy birthday and to stand outside, you can then drive around the neighborhood with your child looking at all of the cool signs their friends made.

You can also organize a drive-by parade, where the birthday boy/girl stands in front of their house and friends/neighbors drive by wishing them a happy birthday! If your child is a fan of antique cars try contacting a local car club to see if they could send a few cars to join in the parade! Also, while making your way down the parade route, don't forget to drop a card in the mailbox!

A Virtual Party – There are many options when it comes to having a virtual party, you can plan a virtual party where your child/few of their close friends do a craft together, or a virtual slumber party, where your child can use the Netflix party extension to watch a movie with his/her closest friends.

If you are looking for a more structured virtual party the trampoline party company is offering free 20-minute parties hosted by Sky Zone employees that will guide your child/their friends through 15-20 minutes of games, active play, and singing "Happy Birthday.", but make sure to book early so that you do not have to go on the waiting list.

Zoom Party – You can plan a zoom party with your friends from around the world, ask one of your closest friends to create a trivia game dedicated to your life and make a drinking game out of it. This way you’ll be able to see how well your friends know you and have some fun at the same time.

You can also have a Zoom dance party, where you play cheesy 70’s-80’s-90’s music, and all of your friends from around the world dance and have a great time. (You can ask your friends for the cheesiest song ideas to make it more interesting)

Drive-by parade – If your friends/family live in the area you can organize a drive-by parade, ask them to stand outside their homes at a set time and you can drive by and wave to them (and they can hand you presents through the window, this part is optional) And if you are the one who is celebrating a friends birthday and you are looking for fun gift ideas, make sure to get your friend a quilled greeting card, they will cherish both you and the card, long after the quarantine is over.

The most important thing to remember is, just because your birthday or your child’s birthday falls during the quarantine, it does not mean that you can’t make this one of those birthdays that you will be talking about for many years to come!
