This portrait was commissioned by Ferdinand Block-Bauer as a tribute to his wife when she was 25 years old. Gustav Klimt's artistry shines through as he delicately captures Adele's elegance and allure, employing his signature ornamental style and intricate detailing.
This painting carries with it a complex and fascinating history. During World War II, it was tragically stolen by the Nazis from the Block-Bauer family. The painting's resilience and enduring beauty have led some to refer to it as the "Mona Lisa of Vienna."
