Description
Samurai are elite warriors that became one of Japan’s highest social classes, known for their adept battle techniques and political influence. The armor on display in this card is known as “tosei gusoku” or “modern armor”, prominently used in the 16th century due to firearms becoming more regular. This type of armor gave samurai the flexibility and protection while adapting to new fighting environments. The crest found on the head piece (or kabuto) symbolized a samurai’s rank, clan, and social status.
