Japanese calligraphy, known as shodo in Japan, is the practice of using brush strokes to artistically paint characters onto parchment. This ancient art has significant cultural meaning, ranging from connecting with ancestors, deepening cultural appreciation, religious ceremonies, and mental discipline, among many other uses. There are four essential tools for Japanese calligraphy: the brush, the ink, the paper, and the ink stone, are all on display in this beautifully quilled card that reads “ありがとう“, or “thank you” in Japanese.
